As we traveled north from the Grand Canyon to Page, Arizona, I had one focus. I wanted to see the Lower Antelope Canyons. It was something I had researched and booked well in advance and I prayed every single day that it wouldn’t rain. It was my focus. My husband on the other hand wanted to fish. That was his focus! I had told him all about Lake Powell and how beautiful it was and his first question: can I fish? Yes honey, you can fish and we could also rent a boat. He was sold on the idea of driving 4+ hours from Phoenix to see Page. When we arrived in Page, we checked into the hotel which we loved. Here is the information about which hotel we picked while in Page: We had booked a room at Days Inn and Suites by Wyndam Page Lake Powell and we were blown away. Here is the link to this hotel:
https://www.wyndhamhotels.com/days-inn/page-arizona/days-inn-and-suites-page-lake-powell/overview It was hands down the cleanest and nicest hotel. It is right across the street from a Walmart which was so convenient and they had free breakfast each morning that was delicious.
With all of that said, we decided to head to the marina at Lake Powell to see if we could rent a boat. My husband and I have both driven boats before so we felt confident we could handle whatever they had available. We drove to the Lake Powell boat rental and decided to rent a 23′ pontoon. We’ve driven a pontoon before so we are most comfortable with this. We also wanted to pull up on the sandy area at the end of Navajo Canyon and knew we could navigate the pontoon without damaging the motor. We learned how to lift the motor so it wouldn’t hit debris or sand. Ruining a rental boat motor can be VERY VERY expensive!! We loaded up the boat with our gear and pushed off:
At the end of Navajo canyon is a small beach area where you can pull over and eat. My guys were too excited to eat too much but we always bring snacks so they aren’t miserable from not eating. I use a backpack while we are hiking/boating that has a cooler in the bottom. It is great for these trips:
We keep it super simple with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches! I love them and the boys tolerate peanut butter while we are traveling. I will sometimes buy a small jar of Nutella to make their sandwiches too. We also pack plenty of snacks to keep everyone happy. It was around Easter time so we grabbed some Easter candy from Walmart.
When we pulled onto the beach area at the end of Navajo Canyon, the boys were exploring so I was making lunch for everyone. I bring hand wipes to clean everything before and after I make lunch!
We highly recommend renting a boat at Lake Powell and visiting Navajo Canyon. We plan to return in the summer so we can enjoy a week exploring the waters. It was one of the highlights of our Arizona trip!
